BADANIA WPŁYWU DODATKU SIARCZANU POTASU NA STABILNOŚĆ TERMICZNĄ MIESZANIN AZOTANU AMONU ORAZ CHLORKU POTASU
Ammonium nitrate is used in the production of fertilizers and explosives. Its highly exothermic decomposition has caused numerous incidents that took place during the last century. There are some chemical compounds that can affect the decomposition of ammonium nitrate. Chlorides are described as an accelerating factor and sulphates are known to inhibit the exothermic reaction. Due to the presence of mixtures of ammonium nitrate and potassium chloride in the form of multicomponent fertilizers, it is necessary to examine the stabilizing influence of potassium sulphate, which can be used as a fertilizer additive. The aim of the study was to examine physicochemical changes, taking into account the dangerous decomposition of nitrate fertilizer additive. Results obtained from the thermal analysis of ammonium nitrate, potassium chloride and potassium sulphate mixtures of various rations were compared. Analysis was carried out using differential thermal analysis coupled with thermogravimetry (DTA-TG). Acquired results will help in determining whether ammonium nitrate-based fertilizers can contain chlorides in the presence of decomposition stabilizing substances. Analyses, that were carried out, should enable further research to find the optimal additives that could ensure the safe usage of aforementioned fertilizers.
